Neomycin is an antibiotic that belongs to a classification of drugs known as aminoglycosides. Veterinarians prescribe it to treat and prevent a wide range of bacterial infections, predominantly those found in the intestines.

Precautions for Using Neomycin:

Neomycin should not be used if your pet is allergic to the drug. This drug also can interact with other medications, such as other antibiotics, Vitamin K, and digoxin. If your pet will be taking Neomycin for a prolonged period of time, it is important to test the function of the kidneys regularly.

Dosage and Administration of Neomycin:

Since Neomycin is being used to treat an infection, it is critical to finish the full course of therapy as directed by the veterinarian or the risk of a relapse will be increased. In many cases, your pet will start looking and feeling better early in the treatment, but regardless of this fact, continue to administer the Neomycin unless otherwise directed.
